Trip Advisor Review - Great Travel Tips for your Belize Vacation
Okay, if you're reading Tripadvisor you're probably a cautious traveller reading all the glowing Jungle Dome reviews thinking, "Come on, nobody's that good." Well folks, they are!
Other reviews already do an excellent job of providing details, so I will only provide a few tips. - EVERY DAY TRIP WAS FANTASTIC. Be clear, some are 12 hour excursions that present physical challenges. We're 40-something day-hikers (2-3 hours max) and we went with our 10 and 13 year-old for 8 days. All of us did just fine with the physical demands of the trip. - If you get Luis as a guide, you are in for a treat. The man is an encyclopedia. - Sunscreen's a must (we burned in the water in 20 mins without it) - Keen sandals were perfect for almost every excursion, wet or dry, just be sure to spray your feet with DEET if you're walking in the jungle. - You eat your meals with other guests on the patio. The place seems to attract really decent folk. Enjoy them. - If you get a chance to do a night walk in the jungle, do it! - The owners and staff are as warm and personable as other reviews state. - If you are in the market for a new camera before you travel, consider one of the waterproof digital models. Many of the excursions are in or around water and there will be some amazing photo opportunities you won't want to miss.

Leave your fancy designer clothes at home. This country is laid-back to the max, where flip-flops and a bikini or hiking boots and shorts are as fancy as you need to get.
Take off your watch. Simply go to bed when it is dark (anytime after 6.30 pm) and get up again with the sun (anytime from 6 am onwards). Your daily alarm clock will be the breaking waves on the shore or the tropical chorus of birds and howler monkeys in the jungle.
Realize that when people in Belize tell you 'right now', they don't actually mean 'right now'. They are actually asking you to wait a minute (or two or three). Try not to stress, things will get done.
Slap on the SPF to protect your skin from sun damage and pre-mature aging. Your tan will develop anyhow!
Bring mosquito repellant. We have good nights and bad & it's impossible to predict when the mosquitoes will appear.
If you are hooked on junk food, get your fix before coming to Belize. You will not find any KFC's, McDonalds or Burger Kings here. Our fast food is chicken, rice & beans.
Be prepared to fall in love in with this odd little country (secretly eyeing up the real estate signs and casually asking people about local property prices)
Unless you are a diving, sun bathing or sea fishing fanatic, do not spend more than 5 days on San Pedro or any of the other Cayes. You will have seen all there is to see and will end up going stir crazy.
Leave your hair dryer at home. With all this humidity and sunshine you'll be fighting a losing battle anyhow. We all have terrible hair in Belize..join us!
Try out things you've never done before. Abseil, kayak, dive, drink from a coconut and enjoy being away from what you call 'the real world'. This place is actually more real than most of Western society, as what you see is what you get. No billboards no catch phrases, just Mother Nature at her finest.
Top 10 Travel tips for travel to Belize - Jon Lenaerts and Al Romao
Bring several pair of sneakers and sandals
Cash is important for minor purchases and daily tipping to guides. We never found a use for Travelers cheques
Bring Soap and Shampoo
If you get car sick, Dramamine is suggested. The roads are rather bumpy!
A Protector for film for your camera so that the scanners at airports do not warp your film
Bring a couple of bathing suits, as it is always damp and humid...Wet clothing does not dry very fast
Change of attitude. Things are of a much slower pace in Belize. Chill out mode is recommended and a must
Sleep in the jungle can get some getting used to, the birds and animals are very loud so turn in early to get a ful nights rest because you WILL be up early
Trust your guides, they are trained in what they do and the best in the country
Travel with as little expensive items as necessary (Jewelry, watches, rings, necklaces)
